Industrial Zoning
Sir, Are Christchurch citizens aware of the extent of heavy industrial operations on both sides of Riccarlon road from the railway to Deans avenue? On the south side living conditions have been made unendurable through noisy machinery and volumes of smoke from an industry the owners of which are appealing to have their area zoned for heavy industry. The devaluation of our properties adds to our problems, as they are to be kept as residential while there will be no limit to the extent to which earshattering noises and air pollution may be increased if the appeal is allowed. Many years ago we among others made our homes in what we imagined would always be a most delightful spot elose by beautiful Hagley Park. We have been sadly disillusioned. —Yours, etc., LIVE AND LET LIVE. June 20, 1962.
