AUSTRALIAN MATCH

Late Kick-Off Requested

The match between Canterbury and Australia at Lancaster Park on September 1 will start at 3 pjn., the managenvent committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union decided last night. It made this decision after receiving a request from the New Brighton Trotting Club to have the match start at 3.15 p.m. The club said if this was done it would put the time of its first race on that day forward to 10.45 am. to enable those interested to attend both attractions.

Mr H. C. Blazey said if the club gave an assurance that it would start its meeting early then it must also give an assurance that it would finish early. This assurance could not be given, as holdups could delay the programme, replied Mr D Doake.

Members of the committee agreed that a 3.15 p.m. start was too late and on the motion of Mr J. Storey it was decided to make 3 p.m. the starting time. Telegram Produced

The Christchurch Club wrote concerning its third grade player, W. B. Dickens, and produced a telegram from the Massey College club to the effect that no clearance was required in this case.

At the previous meeting of the committee the Christchurch club had protested against the University club's playing of a senior player in a third grade match and Uni. versity, while admitting the offence, had charged the Christchurch team with playing a junior from Manawatu (Dickens) who had not received a clearance or been regraded. The chairman (Mr J. O Hattersley) said the University counter-claim had not been in form of a formal protest and no further action was required. The Christchurch club’s letter was accepted.

D. P. Gaffakin, who played for the University senior team in M. W. Allen's ab-

sence, was regraded to senior reserve. Two R.N.Z.A-F senior reserve players, W. J. Trembarth and N. K. Smart, were regraded to third grade
