Novel Decorations For Kindergartens’ Ball
Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall in the orchestra stand at the Winter Garden last evtnir.g, when the McKenzie and Fendalton Free Kindergartens held their fifteenth annual joint fund-raising ball Other characters in keeping with the occasion were replicas of pink elephants and paintings depicting nursery rhyme scenes. Gilded flax, and flax flowers, featured in the decorations A charleston, can-can and performance of the twist were among numbers presented in a floor show by members of Miss Billie Stevens’s Studio.
About 350 guests attended the ball, and were received by Mrs E. B. May, president of the McKenzie Free Kindergarten, and Mrs W. Yorke, president of the Fendalton Kindergarten. Specially invited guests were Mrs L. S. Suggate, .president of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association, and Mr Suggate.
Mrs Suggate wore a floor length gown of deep blue self-patterned novelty crepe, teamed with a white stole.
Mrs May's short strapless frock of orchid pink embossed nylon, styled with a full skirt, was worn with a matching stole.
Mrs Yorke chose white brocade embossed with gold lurex flowers for her fulllength gown The skirt had a draped front panel and unpressed pleats at the back, and the fitting bodice was finished with shoe-string shoulder straps. Members of the ball committee were Mr G B. Battersby (convener), Mr G. R. Austin (treasurer), Mesdames R. M. Buchanan, W. M. Bell. R. H. Brett, A. Arblaster, F P. Morrison. P. Ramsden, D V. Lawn, R. S. Wells, C. J Cowell, K. D. Beswick. and Messrs C. C. De Lambert and R. C. Trembath.
