Scooter In Collision
A Christchurch solicitor. Mr Balfour Grieve Dingwall, was killed when his motor-scooter and a car collided at the corner of Wilsons and Centaurus roads about 7.35 jp.m. yesterday. ; The car was driven by Peter Ronald Le Cren.
Mr Dingwall, of 112 Huntsbury avenue, was 38 He. was
a partner in the law firm of Bell. Taylor. Hattaway and Dingwall. The police ask persons who saw the accident to get in touch with the motor accident branch. Mr Dingwall, who was educated at Wellington College and Christchurch Boys' High School, graduated L 1.8.. at Canterbury University in 1947 and LI.M., in 1949. During the war, he spent a short period with the Royal New Zealand Navy. A former chairman of both the Fendalton junior section of the National Party, and the St. Martins branch, he was selected by the party as its candidate for the Riccarton seat in the 1954 General Election. Mr Dingwall also contested this seat in the 1958 by-election on the death of the Labour holder, Mr A. McLagan. Mr Dingwall was one of the foundation members of the Canterbury Gliding Association in 1947. He was president of the association from 1950 until 1956. and was its representative on the New Zealand Gliding Association executive from its formation in 1948 until his death. A former president of the University of Canterbury Cross-country Club, he was also a former secretary of the Canterbury cross-country committee of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association.
Mr Dingwall took an active part in the Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society and was a member of the committee. He also gave lectures on public speaking at W.E A. classes, and was a member of the central committee of ■ the Nursery/Play Centres’ Association, He is survived by his wife and three children.
