June 14. ’ Auckland is now only half a poiut behind Manawatu-Wanga-nui in the North Island Russell Grace women’s golf tournament at the Arikikapakapa links, Rotorua. Auckland has 20 points and Manawatu-Wanganui 20£. Before the fourth and fifth rounds today Manawatu-Wanganui had a lead of two points. Thames-Valley-Bay of Plenty, with two good wins over Northland and Waitkato-King Country’. holds third place with 19J points. The individual surprise of the morning was the defeat of Mrs J. Mangan (Manawatu-Wanga-nui i by Mrs D. J. Steel (Auckland), 2 and 1. Mrs Mangan atoned in the afternoon when she beat the Tasman Cup trial player. Miss P. Bull, of Wellington, 3 and Points are: Manawatu-Wanga-nui 20J. Auckland 20, Thames Valley-Bay of Plenty 19J. Wai-kato-King Country 181. Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay 14, Wellington 12. Taranaki 10.
