Bridie O’Cally In Impressive Sprint

Bridie O’Cally could win the Farewell Hack Handicap at Oamaru if she races with the dash she shows in training.

She impressed in a training sprint on the No. 1 grass at Riccarton yesterday. Bridie O’Cally galloped before a cold south-westerly brought rain, so she had the best of the track conditions; but she still did well to record 51 3-ssec. Ridden by A. Reriti. she finished two lengths clear of Arouse (O. Anning).

Bridie O’Cally has done nothing of any account since the Oamaru autumn meeting, where she was an unlucky third to Derailment and Neron in a hack sprint. Derailment, now in open company, yesterday galloped five furlongs with Donna Maria. They recorded 54sec for the last half-mile. Donna Maria was ridden by her race rider, B. W. McDonald. G. Thompson rode Derailment. Kastanea <G. R. Baldwin) and William David (R. W. Donovan) ran a mile in Imin 53 l-ssec and the last half in 55 l-ssec. They are stable-mates, but rival candidates for the Oamaru Cup Bodkin (B. W. McDonald) and Wellington (B. Collins), two more members of J. L. Barr’s team in at Oamaru worked away easily from the mile, and took Imin 59 l-ssec to reach the post. Wellington, a strongly-fin-ishing second at Waimate last time out, may be hard to beat in the Farewell Hack Handicap. Tidal Wave (G. W. Mein*. Timatan, and Knight ran the last half-mile of their work in M 1-Smc.

On form, Tidal Wave looks one of Riccarton’s brighter prospects at Oamaru. He is in the Waikaura Champion Hack Handicap. The stablemates Glendale (E. G. Low) and Begame (W. Beck) recorded 54 l-ssec for half a mile. Later, after * further rain, Abou Ben Adhem (B. W. McDonald) sprinted half a mile in 54 3-ssec, a time also recorded earlier by the stablemates, Last Mate (O. Anning) and Joyvine (G. W. Mein).

McCool (C. McDonald) showed, as usual, deceptive speed in running half a mile in 52 3-ssec. He has nc engagements close at hand Fair Chase (O. Anning) and Sumptuous (G. W. Mein) recorded 55 3-ssec. Mein has been engaged to ride Jnst Joe. a winner at the Dunedin meeting, in the Farewell Hack Handicap at Oamaru.
