Swimming COOK STRAIT ATTEMPT
R. A. Blair’s Plans R. A. Blair, of Christchurch. has announced his mitenUon of attempting to swim Cook Strait next season. He has been one of New Zealand's foremost sprint swimmers in recent years, and has represented ths country at water polo. As a surfer he has won the New Zealand senior bekman s championship for the last four years in succession. Blair said yesterday that he had received an invitation from Mr J. Young, a Wellington hotel proprietor, to make the attempt, but he hod been toying with the idea for some time.
Blair will leave for Wellington next month to go into training. He will stay at Mr Young's hotel and will work at the Post Office directly across the road His training will consist of running. weight-lifting, ard swimming in the aca during the week-ends. When the date of his attempt is decided, he will probably give up bis job, and devote his full time to training. "I will be swimming for the South Brighton Surf Club —not for myself," Blair said.
