SPANIARDS’ CHOICE
Opposition In Exile (NZ Press Assn.—Copyright) MADRID, June 12. Three opponents of the Franco regime were sent into forced residence in the distant Canary Islands yesterday. This was their punishment for taking part in the recent Munich “unification” conference of those opposed to General Franco, the Associated Press reported. The three men were placed aboard a plane by a police escort which rebuffed efforts of their families to speak to them. They were the pro-mon-archist leader, Mr Joaquin de Satrustegui, and two other prominent pro-monarchists, Mr Fernando Alvarez de Miranda and Mr Jaime Miralles. Relatives said the three were given a choice of forced residence in the Canaries or exile abroad.
The other participants in the Munich conference chose exile and are now in Paris.
