U.K. Decision Awaited (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 13. The escaped British convict Henry Gorman may be extradited from flew Zealand by the British Government. A decision is expected within days. Until this was decided the New Zealand Government would not make a move to deport Gorman. The Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan) said
this today. He said Gorman, if extradited. was likely to be returned to Britain under supervision. Gorman is in Mount Crawford Prison. Wellington, after his Court appearance last week as an illegal immigrant and his spectacular escape bid from prison warders. He was unlikely to be transferred to another prison. Mr Hanan said.
Only one plea for the convict to remain in New Zealand with his wife and'baby has reached the Minister "I have had one letter wanting Gorman to remain and another saying he should be deported. “No deputations or personal representations have been made to me or any other Minister.
“No appointments have been made.” Mr Hanan said Gorman’s wife or friends could still visit him.
“We don’t run a Gestapo.” he said. “We don’t check to see if you've a lead pencil in your pocket.”
