LIONS WIN, 14-11

Recovery In Second Half (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CAPE TOWN, June 6. The British Lions Rugby Union team, after trailing 11-0 at half-time, staged a splendid recovery to beat Southern Universities, 14-11, at Cape Town, today. About 25,000 people saw the Lions, spurred by A. Smith’s second half try, win by three tries, a penalty goal and a conversion, to two tries, a penalty goal and a conversion. The Lions showed once again that no team can stop them from playing their natural running game. R. Sharp, at fly-half, was brilliant and was seldom effectively stopped by the students. Jeeps Improves R. Jeeps, at scrum-half, though not as nippy in the first half as his opposite number, D. de Villiers, later gave a display reminiscent of his best form.

W. Mulcahy and the Lions' pack battled ceaselessly throughout. Mulcahy and M. Campbell-Lamerton reached well in the line-outs, where they were well supported by A. Pask. At full-back J. Wilcox had a disappointing game. Scorers were:— Lions: A. Smith, M. Weston,

J. Dee, tries R. Sharp penalty and conversion. - Southern Universities: M. Gillies, van Zyl Slabbert tries; L. du Plessis, penalty and conversion.
