Airline services operating through Christchurch airport were almost back to schedule b. 4 p.m yesterday By early afternoon the previous day's backlog of passengers had been cleared and only the direct Auckland and Dunedin flights were running about an hour late.
A Viscount which touched down at Harewood at 11 a.m yesterday was the first to land since 2 pm. on Monday. Before this aircraft arrived the aircort was closed and three DC-3s had to use the Wigram field Harewood was cleared for instrument take-offs from 940 a.tn., but no aircraft were available to fly out From 10.40 a.m. two Viscounts and a Friendship landed in rapid succession. These three, together with the three DC-3's at Wigram. helped to! clear waiting passengers. Had not the 400 or so passengers from the previous day elected to travel north on the inter-island steamer express, the National Airways Corporation would have been in difficulties. Tasman Empire Airways. Ltd., which operated across the Tasman from Wellington yesterday, landed its Electra from Melbourne about 640 p.m. It left again at 7.50 pm. This flight should 2, a Jf e * >een on Tuesday. T.E.A.L is at present operating 25 hours late.
