Buller By-Election

Sir, —A. F. Palmer’s “specific cases” go to strengthen the fact that the National Government serves all the electors. To examine hte quibbles, would he have the railways mentioned closed regardless? Or the Buller byelection held on July 21? Or the consumers in New Zealand sacrificed to pay for and maintain uneconomic industries? If not, whom has the Government offended? ts it agreed that public servants deserved a pay rise? Is It unfair that those who use railway and postal facilities should contribute? Rising costs must be met, if not by increased charges, by taxation or borrowing, the controversial point being, who pays? Something for nothing is a myth.—Yours, etc., , B. CONSTANT. June 5, 1962.
