DOLOMITE PLAINT
Ore Mined For Glassworks (From Our Oujn Reporter) NELSON. June 6. After two years’ investigation. the Lime and Marble Company, of Mapua, has established a dolomite plant for industrial and agricultural purposes at Mount Burnett. near Collingwood A geological survey has established that between 6.000.000 and 50.000,000 tuns of ore is contained in the mountain which the company hopes to start processirg before the end of the year. The deposits are of a low iron content most suitable for window and plate glass manufacture for which orders have already been received from the new glassworks at Whangarei. The Auckland steel works has also ordered quantities of the ore now being mined to meet the glassworks orders Temporary crushing, grinding and screening facilities are being installed on McGlashen quay, Port Nelson, by Highways Construction. Ltd.
The first bulk shipment from Nelson of high grade dolomite will be made later this month to the Whangarei works The steel industry will receive the medium grade ore and agriculture the finest dolomite.
