Modern New Zealand homes show in their floors changing tastes and individuality—impressionist splashes to disciplined geometric forms, ancient patterns of the East to floral tonings and Maori motifs, or just plain colours. The carpets are the products of a major local industry developed in recent years to meet New Zealand needs. The biggest carpet manufacturer, Felt and Textiles of New Zealand Ltd., led the way in 1948 with the Riccarton mill, which has grown to have a staff of 520 and to produce more than one million square yards of carpet.
