United Israel Appeal

(N Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 21. There was an urgent need for funds to educate the young in Israel, said Briga-dier-General A. Yaffe launching the annual United Israel appeal in Auckland tonight. General Yaffe, who is commander of the southern command of the Israel Army, said that thousands of youngsters from throughout the world had flocked to Israel to fight the war of independence. The country was faced with the task of absorbing these people, educating them and finding work for them.

The Japan Wool Spinners’ Association said yesterday the date of enforcing a further curtailment in worsted yarn production would be postponed from the originally planned June 1 to July 1. The decision taken earlier this month called for raising the operating curtailment from the present 50 per cent, of the capacity to about 55 per cent, in view of a heavy decline in raw wool prices.
