Branch’s Fourth Birthday
The Addington .branch of the Caitholic Women’s League celebrated its fourth birthday recently when the president (Mrs A. H. Stone) welcomed guests. They included the Rev. Fathers J. Finnerty and J. Coleman (spiritual director), the Diocesan president of the league (Mrs J. P. Donnelly), presidents and members of the Halswell and Kaiapoi branches. A programme of entertainment was provided by members of the Catholic Academy of Maori Culture, wtho presented action songs,, poi dances and choral numbers Mr George Brennan was compere and accompanist. The Rev. Father C. Horgan, who was recently appointed full-time chaplain to the Maori community in the diocese of Christchurch, accompanied the concert party Father Horgan hopes to open a Maori centre in Christchurch soon, said a report from the branch.
Minor Fire.— Slight damage was done to a concrete mixer motor when it caught fire about 9.10 a.m. yesterday. The motor was at the rear of the Christchurch Hospital laundry. Three engines from Central attended.
