Big Prize To Thomson (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, May 20. Peter Thomson, 32-year-old Australian, gained £2OOO, the richest prize yet in British golf, by winning the Piccadilly golf tournament at Hillside, Southpore, Lancashire, today. Thomson went round the cold, wet course in 69, shook off Christy O'Connor and posted a *four-round aggregate of 283 172, 69. 73. 69). R. J. Charles (New Zealand) did the last round in 72, making an aggregate of 293 (78, 69, 74, 72). He was ninth equal with three British players. When Thomson hit off this morning he shared the lead with O’Connor on 214 but put in his claim for the prize by shooting a birdie three, two fewer than O'Connor, at the first hole. O'Connor carded a 72 (286) and took the second prize of £lOOO. The third place-getters. Max Faulkner and Bernard Hunt, who scored 73 and 72 respectively, finished on 288 and collected £650. Thomson now has earned more than £7OOO in British prize money since last August. £3OOO of this in the last two weeks.
