BRITAIN’S FIRST COLOURED J.P.—Mr E. G. Irons, who was sworn in as a Nottingham Magistrate last week, talks with Alderman C. Cameron, chairman of the Nottingham Magistrates, outside the Guildhall. He presided at Court after the ceremony. A 41-year-old Jamaican, Mr Irons is Britain’s first coloured J.P. He is a married man with five children. He went to Britain during the war and served with the R.A.F. Some years ago, Mr Irons helped to form the Nottingham Commonwealth Citizens’ Association.
