Saleyards Parking
Sir,—l heartily endorse the opinions of “FJ?J.,” “Cashmere,” and “Picton Avenue.”
The solution of all the trouble in the south-west corner of Hagley Park is that the saleyards should be moved right out of the city. I think Islington is the best place for them. About 12 months ago I wrote to your paper suggesting this move, and stating that the Blenheim road overbridge was built Ln the wrong place. The angle of turn-off from Blenheim road should be where Lowe street joins Blenheim road; then continue straight till it joins Deans avenue at the corner of Moorhouse avenue. This would have saved our park from being cut back and trees removed. Cannot this bungling be remedied now and save any further trouble there?—Yours, etc., JACK-PLANE. May 9, 1962.
Sir,—lf the people of Christchurch do not want the farmers to spend their money in Christchurch, sb.ft the saleyards to Kaiapoi. Then it would cost the people in Christchurch more for their meat, as the Addington saleyards are at a junction of the railways.—Yours, etc., A FARMER WHO TAKES HIS MEAT WITH HIM. May 9, 1962.
