London Papers’

Comments

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON. May 9

London newspapers featured the rejection by the directors of New Zealand Insurance Company of an offer by Eagle Star Insurance for 45 per cent of its capital under headings “Eagle Star Gets Brush-Off." and “Eagle Star's New Zealand Bid Declined ” “The Times" quotes a spokesman for Eagle Star as saying that no offer had in fact been made to the New Zealand directors but that discussions had been suggested with a view to a minority holding in the interests of closer business association. He said that in view of the report from New Zealand there would be no purpose in pursuing the matter further. News of the New Zealand rejection of the proposal coincided with the publication of Eagle Star’s annual statement of accounts which reported a £3om increase in assets to a peak of £242m.
