Gadet Battalion Parades

Seyeral hundred parents and friends Watched 450 boys of the St. Andrew's College cadet battalion parade in honour of th? retiring rector (Mr L W. Stewart) at the college yesterday afternoon. On the football field in brilliant sunshine She parade, led by the college pine band, gave the general salute.

The battalion, drawn up in open order, was then inspected by Mr Stewart and the parade commander (Major F Finnegan). The college Air Training Coros flight was positioned on the right flank of the parade in recognition of Mr Stewart's service in 1914-18 as a member of the Royal Flying Corps 3"d in 1939-45 as an A.T.C. officer.

After the inspection a full ceremonial retreat was performed by the band. It consisted of drum rolls, the sounding a retreat by the buglens, a drum flourish a march past in quick time, two slow marches, and a final march in quick time

During the ceremony the college flag was lowered to symbolise the end at Mr Stewart’s long period at service to the college. Later, guests and Mr Stewart moved to the front of Strowan House, where, from the front steps Mr Stewart took the salute as the A.T.C. unit led the battalion in the march past
