DISMISSED CHARGE
Allegations Of Assault A charge against Joseph Thomas Mitchell of assaulting his wife, Colleen Maude Mitchell, was dismissed in the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court yesterday by Mr A. P. Blair, S.M., after he had heard evidence from the police, the complainant. Colleen Maude Mitchell, and from the defendant, Mitchell. The defendant, who was represented by Mr R. S. D. Twyneham, accused his wife in Court of assaulting him. After hearing further evidence from Mitchell’s stepdaughter, Jaqueline Blom, the Magistrate dismissed the case saying that all the evidence was unreliable. He said drink on both sides had much bearing on the case. FAILURE TO CLEAR NOXIOUS WEEDS Repeated warnings to clear their respective properties of [noxious weeds had been given to two offenders in the Lyttelton area, the noxious weeds inspector (Mr H. W. Fawcett) told the Magistrate. He said that in addition to giving warnings and time limits to clear the weeds, he had asked for these charges to be adjourned from February 14 until yesterday. The work had not been done. Imposing fines of £25 on Richard Paulsen, and £l5 on Mary Janette Muller, the Magistrate said that he agreed that the inspector had done his best to give the defendants every chance. TRAFFIC OFFENCES Wayne Norman Ritchie, aged 16, was warned by the Magistrate against repetition of his present offences and told that he would be lightly dealt with in this case because of his youth. Ritchie was fined £5 for having no driver’s licence, and £4 for showing no lights. He was also convicted and discharged on charges of having an unlicensed motor-vehicle and possessing no warrant of fitness.
Failing to keep to the left: Oliver Harold Barns, £4; no warrant of fitness, John Thomas Dungey, £2 (no lights on vehicle, £5).
