NELSON AIR SERVICE
Support For S.P.A.N.Z.
(From Our Own Reporter) NELSON. May 9. The Nelson City Council fully supports the withdrawal of the National Airways Corporation’s Nelson to Christchurch service in favour of South Pacific Airlines of New Zealand, which pioneered the route, it was decided at a special meeting last evening. The Town Clerk (Mr W. E. McCullough) said that S.P.A.N.Z. had pioneered the route and that if the company failed, it would mean that other centres like Oamaru, Alexandra and possibly Rotorua would be de* prived of an air service. The vice-president of the Nelson Progress League (Mr H. Rodgers) said that the council could be assured of the full support of the league.
In a personal statement the president of the Nelson Chamber of Commerce (Mr K. O. McGuire) said he welcomed the Government’s plans on S.P.A.N.Z., and was pleased with the company’s service.
He said he had no objection to N.A.C. relinquishing the run and commended the attitude of N.A.C. on the matter.
