MACMILLAN FOR U.S.

Discussions On Summit

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, April 19

Britain’s Prime Minister (Mr Macmillan* indicated today that he would raise the question of an East-West summit conference with President Kennedy when he sees him later this month. The Leader of the Labour Opposition (Mr Gaitskell) asked whether it was not true that the Soviet Prime Minister (Mr Khrushchev) was not willing to make concessions to the West except in an agreement which he himself had negotiated. Mr Macmillan replied: “I accept that that may be so. That is the reason it would be wiser for me to discuss all this with President Kennedy and other Heads of States . . . rather than make a statement today.” Mr Macmillan is making a short visit to the United States and Canada from April 25.
