LOTTERY COSTS

Organiser’s Statement (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 17. Mr Neil McArthur, of Hammond and McArthur, organisers of the Golden Kiwi lottery, said today that the operating costs of each lottery were £ 15,500. This sum was all used for legitimate expenses in running the lottery, he said Lottery tax of £6250 had to be paid, as well as commissions of 10 per eent. to 2400 selling agents, and 5 per cent, to district controllers.

National publication of results cost £9OO, and there were other payments for cheques, stamp duty, stationery and other minor expenses. Mr McArthur said the lottery balance-sheets were available for publication at any time. The profit from each lottery averaged £ 17,000.
