RESERVOIR AT LYTTELTON

Repairs Planned

The Quarry road reservoir, which has twin compartments of 56,000 and 44.000 gallons, is apparently in a bad condition, according to a report from the borough's consulting engineer, reed at a meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Council. The reservoir was built in 1934. On the motion of Cr. A. R. Champion, it was decided to ask the consulting engineer and the borough foreman to go ahead with plans for repairing the reservoir. The water committee suggested that the borough engineer be asked to iaveerigate and report on the sinking of an additional well at Heathcote, as well as the possible loss of Nos. 1,2 and 3 wells and their replacement. It was recommended that the engineer ask the Christchurch Fire Board about standards required for reticulation of the new harbour area. It was also suggested that the Town Clerk should report on the cost of supplying the council’* own power to Nos. 1 and 2 pumphouses. Legal advice on the council's responsibility about the reticulation of the new harbour area should also be sought by the Town Clerk, the report said.

It suggested that the council should consider raising • loan of £40,000 for waterworks expenditure. The report was adopted.
