LEWIS PASS TO OTIRA
Tramping Club’s Easter Plans Members of the Christchurch Tramping Club have planned an extensive programme for the Easter holiday. The main trip will be between the Lewis Pass and Otira, with a diversion for some which will bring them out to the Waimakariri river near Cass. The main party will travel up the Lower Hope valley from the Lewis Pass and over the Kiwi saddle into Lake Sumner. The route then lies up the Hurunui river and over Harper’s Pass to the West Coast and the Taramakau river.
A smaller party will tramp over a route which is a variation of the “three pass trip.” They will leave the Bealey river bridge, travel up the Waimakariri river and White river, and eventually arrive in Otira. From Harman Pass the route will take this party to th ehead of the Wilberforce river and then over Pope’s Pass to Julia creek. They will cross the Kelly range and come out above the Otira valley.
