PAINTINGS FOUND IN CAR
Cezaniws Stolen From Museum (NJtJ’.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MARSEILLES. Apnl 15. Eight paintings by Cezanne, worth more than 10,000.000 new francs (£723,000) and stolen last August from a museum at Aix-en-Provence, were found recently in an abandoned stolen car, Marseilles police disclosed yesterday. The paintings, which had been taken out of their frames, have been definitely identified by experts. No arrest has been made but police believe they know the thieves. Two are understood to have been detained abroad. The paintings, stolen from the Pavilion Vendome in Aix, where they were on exhibition. included the famous “Card Players.” which had been lent by the Louvre in Paris. Another, “Still Life With Teapot,” was on loan from the National Museum of Wales.
