Mariposa To Miss Auckland Call
(NJ?. Pres* Atsociation) AUCKLAND. April 14. The liner Mariposa will omit her north-bound cal! «t Auckland on her next voyage. The ship, which has been delaved by the American shipping strike, will call at Auckland on May 1 and embark north-bound passengers before going on to Sydney. She will sail direct for Suva from Sydney. Orient Commodore To Retire Ute commodore of Die Orient Line fleet. Commodore A E. Coles, will retire early in May when his present rortmend, trie Oman a, reaches South amgiton. Commodore Coles was bom in 1902. received his early sea training with the MaeAndrwws Line and the Royal Naval Reserve and joined the Orient Line as a fourth officer in 192 R During the war he engaged In nune-eweeiping and convoy escort duties in the English Channel. North Sea and the Atlantic and was awarded the reserve decoration. He is a retired captain, RNJt Since the war he has been captain of many of his line’s vessels and has commanded the Oriana since early this year.
