WALTON SALE
Four Lots, Sold (N.z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. April 12. Nine lots were offered and •only four sold at a dispersal of l breeding and racing stock on behalf of Mr G. S Walton at ■ his Castlehill property at Otaki today. The tour sold realised ’ 1875 guineas. The sale, conducted by I Wright. Stephenson and Company, Ltd., was held in fine 'weather. There was an attendance of about 300. Commanding and Castlerae. two of the leading three-year-'olds of the spring, were paraded before the sale. They have been 'sold to Mr R. C. Ellsworth, of . California, and they are to be flown there early next month. Both horses were paraded in !beautiful condition, the developiment they have made evoking I a round of applause. The Castlehill property, comprising 48i acres with a 2000 . square feet home, manager’s house and stables, was offered first and was passed in al £17,000 to the bid of a Wellington businessman. It is under- , stood that the reserve was well i in excess of £20,000. Castle Princess was the only brood mare sold. This 14-year-I old. by Red Mars from Lady Mahleen, went for 140 guineas , to the bid of Mr K. Duncan, of ' Hunterville.
Franlyle, a 10-year-old mare by White Heather from First , Round, was passed in at 1400 i guineas, the last bidder being ;Mr A. Hunter, manager of the bloodstock department of ! Wright. Stephenson, who was acting on behalf of a Melbourne I buyer. j The Oaks winner. Sublime, a 12-year-old mare by Spiral from Subdued, was passed in at TOO J guineas.
! Castle Queen.. the 13-year-old j dam of Castlerae. was passed in at 850 guineas. A weanling chestnut colt by The Cobbler from Franlyle was sold to Mrs S. McGreal, of • Waitara, for 675 guineas, -and ‘Mr W. Norwood, of Wellington, gave 800 guineas for a bay colt Iby The Cobbler from Agathis. I The weanling colt by Fair’s I Fair from Qualify, a half(brother to Commanding. was I withdrawn. He was recently sold to a Bay of Plenty owner. I Mr W. R. Stead, of Hastings. I gave 260 guineas for a two-year-old browm filly by Pride lof Kildare from Castle Princess, j She had been broken in but not ! tried.
Commanding’s dam, Qualify, was also withdrawn. She was sold two weeks ago to Mr R: Bell, of California, and is at present at the W'est Derby Stud in Levin being mated with Knight’s Romance to Northern Hemisphere time.
