SUPPER PARTY FOR CHOIR

City Council’s Tribute

The Christchurch City Council will express its appreciation of the success of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society’s choir at the Adelaide Festival at a function on Saturday evening. The Mayor (Mr G. Manning) and councillors will entertain the full choir of 180 at supper after the choir's annual Easter performance of Bach’s “The Passion of Our Lord according to St. Matthew." At the supper the Mayor will congratulate the choir on its “triumphal” visit to Adelaide.

“This gives us and the city an opportunity to express to the choir our appreciation of the magnificent job they did in bringing the city of Christchurch to the fore on a great Commonwealth occasion.” the deputy-Mayor (Cr. H. P. Smith) said yesterday. “Christchurch owes a great debt to the choir and this is one small way of showing the city’s appreciation.”
