Player Leads With 67

G. Player, of South Africa, went into the second round of the masters golf tourna. meat today a clear-cut leader on the strength of his brilliant 67—five under par—yesterday. The 26-year-old Player led the American veteran, J. Boros, by two strokes in his quest to repeat his victory of last year. Player regained his magic putting touch, taking only 28 putts on the 6990-yard Augusta national course. He had 34 strokes on the first nine and 33 on the second It was nearly dark when Player finished .with a flourish on the 18th in a cold, drizzling rain. His drive carried some 260 yards; his 4iron second stopped within eight feet of the cup. and he coolly dropped the putt.

A. Palmer, the favourite and twice winner of the Masters, also birdied the last hole for a 70. and was tying for third place with three other Americans, D. Ragan. G. Dickinson and M. Souchak. Five were tied at 71. Australia had an off day. B. Crampton did best with a 72. K. Nagle had 75. N. Von Nida 78. F. Phillips 79, and B. Devlin 80.

New Zealand’s only representative, R. J. Charles, was well down the field with 75.
