Obituary

MR HERBERT HILL The death occurred in Christchurch yesterday of Mr Herbert Hill, a well known personality in the wool industry. Born in Shipley, England, he was educated at Giggleswick Public School and joined the family wool firm in Bradford. Mr Hill became a wellknown woolbuyer, being managing-director of Messrs Walter Hill and Sons (New Zealand). Ltd., and a director of Sir James Hill and Sons. Ltd., of Bradford.

For many years he was president of the New Zealand Woolbuyers' Association and a member of the New Zealand Wool Committee. He was appointed Controlling Appraiser of the war-time disposal of New Zealand wool. For these and other services to the New Zealand wool industry he was awarded the OB E. Mr Hili was a director of the Kaiapoi Woollen Mafufacturing Company. Ltd. He was a past-president of the Elmwood Bowling Club, a Past Master of Civic Lodge and a member of the Canterbury Club and the Christchurch Golf Club. He was a Justice of the Peace.

Mr Hill is survived by his wife and three daughters. His only son pre-deceased him.

Moa Bones Found.— Moa bones have been discovered on the Utiku property of Mr W. N Anderson. The bones—leg, toe and claw —were from a young bird, a member of one of the largest of the North Island moa species.—tP.A.) ,
