CURRENT NOTES
TV Set Gift.— At a formal dinner to be held for present serving members of the Women’s Royal New Zealand Air Force at Wigram on April 11 during the unit’s twenty-first anniversary celebrations, a television set will be presented for members’ use. Given by the Wigram Welfare Committee from the Service Institute Fund, the set will be officially handed over by the committee president (Squadron Leader M. Foster). About 30 members and their partners are expected to be present.
Overseas League Music Circle.— The following artists presented items at a recent meeting of the Music Circle of the Christchurch branch of the Royal Overseas League: Mesdames M. Hanafin, L. Price. Messrs R. Gray, J. Cahill and R. Mclntosh (vocalists) and Mrs W. E. Olds (piano). Accompaniments were by Mrs Olds who also arranged the musical programme. The president of the circle (Mrs L. R. de Roo) presided.
Kirwee C.W.l.— Mrs C. D. Newton (voluntary organiser) was the guest speaker at the thirtieth annual meeting of the Kirwee Country Women’s 1 Institute. Officers elected were: President, Mrs G. Seaton; vice-presidents, Mesdames G. Gallagher and P. Scott; secretary. Mrs L. Fox; assistant secretary, Mrs R, Westaway; treasurer, Mrs R. McMeekan; committee, Mesdames L. Fox, G. Gallagher, C. McLennan, R. McMeekan, J. Rowlands, P. Stott, R. Westaway, R. Watson and M. McCaughan. Mayor trophy winners during the year were Mrs E. Thomson 1, Mrs D. Westaway 2. Mrs R. Watson 3; most points in serving. Mrs G. Gallagher: cooking, Mrs L. Fox; in other than first three places, Mrs G. Seaton.
Avonside Old Girls.— At the buffet tea and annual meeting of the Avonside Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association the following officers were elected; Patroness, Miss K. Leonard; president, Mrs R. Creevy, vice-presidents, Misses M Samuel, V. F. Townshend, M. Wilkinson, D. Chapman Mesdames R. Poore, U. Murray and E. Nichols; secretary, Miss A. Cornelius: assistant secretary. Miss P. Yates; treasurer, Miss C. Crosbie; hockey representative, Miss N. Brixton; committee, Mesdames M. Frost, J. Fifield, M. Cooper, A Hayes. M. Harrall. Misses T. Wylie. J. Wvlie B. Clark and B. Winter.
Birthday Party.—More than 80 members and friends attended the sixteenth birthday party of the Christchurch North Townswomen’s Guild. Guests of honour included Mesdames R. M. Smith (Dominion secretary). C Ironside, F. Pheloung and C Crawford of the Dominion executive. Sprays were presented to the»e guests and to Mesdames A. Thompson (area secretary), R. c. Smith (guild president), S. G Turner (.secretary) and L Russell (treasurer). A programme of entertainment included items bv the singing circle and a sketch by the drama group.
Boon Hay Women’s Fellowship.—About £lOO was raised for the furnishing of a new church building, when the Hoon Hay Women's Fellowship of the Presbyterian Church held a fashion parade at Hillmorton High School recently. A comprehensive range of winter garments was shown, including coats, suits, frocks, sports and casual wear, and cocktail wear. About 400 persons attended.
