STATEMENT SOUGHT

Request By Farmers

(N.Z. Press Association)

INVERCARGILL, April 5 The Southland provincial president of the Federated Farmers (Mr F M Henderson* today urged the Government to "come out in the open and state clearly without equivocation. exactly what is being done and what the Government intends to do to ensure New Zealand’s voice is heard and that her interests are protected.” in the E.E.C negotiations Mr Henderson, who said hs was speaking for every farmer in Southland, had been asked whether he considered the New Zealand Government was doing enough to protect its primary industries.

He said he was unable to answer that question, because the Government had not said what it was doing. There was an aura of mystery surrounding New Zealand's negotiations over the proposed entry of Britain into the EE C.
