Sir, —“Justitia” is to be thanked for drawing attention to the findings of responsible investigators upon the necessity of law reform and its effect, required for better consideration of the needs of persons desiring to live in peace in their own homes. After long residence, uprootings can and have proved fatal to health, mental and physical, and even, to life. Any qualified architect or planner should be aware of methods of incorporating the early-built strong houses similar to those adjoining and occupied in the reclamation area, which would not detract from any scheme. Conference street demonstrates the possibilities. Two such sides of the short street, preserved, might have proved a relic and tourist attraction for Christchurch demonstrating early settlement more finitely than the museum replica, and without reconstruction.
