Sir,—Regarding an open ‘ season for pukeko, “Spare ' • the Remnant” is quite right 1 > in what he says. In some s 5 localities these birds are in < ' grave danger of extermina- ' 1 tion and need all the protec- c * tion we can give them. The 1 Amuri district is one where s a disease three years ago s nearly wiped them out. They 1 . are beginning to increase ■ t again but need careful con- 1 i serration for some years un- 1 1 til fully re-established.
