(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON. April 5.
The Minister of Education (Mr Teunenr.) today took s’rong exception to a suggestion that be was avoiding meeting the Auckland Edu-
cation Board to discuss its He said board members Fad made an “unreasonable” outburst. This had come on top of ‘•unwarranted criticism” levelled at him last
Mr Tennent said he advised the board a fortnight ago that he would be unable to attend its meeting on April 3. and he had telephoned the chairman during this week’s meeting tn say he would definitely meet the board in May.
The Minister reminded the board that during a round of all boards in February he bad not been met by the Auckland board, as he had requested, but by some members of the works committee. It had been sard last month, he said, that he had “brushed off" a protest from the board concerning the building of the Mount Eden normal
But, he said, this delay could be blamed entirely on the board and its officers, "The criticism of the Minister of Education by the Auckland Education Board is most unfarr and quite unwarranted.” said the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) “I have complete confidence in the Minister although I am ready at all times to meet any person or any organisation. J intend to leave to Mr Tennent the handling of the matters raised by the board,” said Mr Holyoake. Mr Holyoake said he had discussed with the Minister the teachers' training college problems and other matters. In the light of the facts given him, he regretted that the board should have adopted the attitude it did.
