GYMNASTS ON TOUR
Group To See Other Lands
"The Press" Special Service HAMILTON, April 5.
A group of 17 young persons from Hamilton will leave from Wellington for Europe this week in the Southern Cross. They have worked for four years at odd jobs and vegetable growing to raise funds to go overseas and complete their cultural education by working in other lands.
Passages for 30 were booked many months ago, but lack of funds and other reasons, such as completion of education—and engagements —have reduced the party to 17.
All are accomplished gymnasts. One is the New Zealand men's champion Michael Smith.
In addition to their gymnastic displays, the party has a wide repertoire of Maori cultural items, films and colour slides for talks on New Zealand.
They hope to “pay their way” by giving programmes and by working in each country en route.
They will be away from New Zealand for a year.
