SHIP LOST ANCHOR

All Cable Run Out (N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, March 28. The 10,275-ton freighter, Neder Ebro, lost a 4.3-ton anchor and 10 15-fathom lengths of chain during berthing operations at the port of Whangarei yesterday. The anchor was let go as the ship was approaching the wharf, and because of a brake failure all toe cable ran over toe side.

Captain E. S. Ross, the Whangarei Harbour Board’s deputy Harbour Superintendent, who was to bring the ship in, considered there was no need to put out a further anchor and berthed the ship without further incident. The anchor and its chain were found without difficulty and lifted on to a crane barge by 7 pm. This morning toe chain was fed back into the ship and the anchor secured and the ship was ready to sail on schedule at 11.30 am. for New Plymouth.
