SUNDAY SCHOOL ATTENDANCES

Comparison With Britain (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. March 21. New Zealand Sunday schools have not met with the apathy which has hit their British counterparts in recent years. A general lack of interest in religion has been blamed for falling Sunday school attendances in Britain, but New Zealand churches are not losing ground—and one of the main reasons for this appears to be the introduction of the American-style family Sunday school. The four major Protestant denominations in New Zealand, Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodiet, and Baptist, report steadily increasing attendances, though spokesmen agreed that the church is not keeping pace with the general population trend. The introduction of family Sunday schools in New Zealand has brought about a revival in interest. These schools have been a feature of American church-life for many years, and the Rev. J. J. Burt, a Wellington Baptist youth director, said today that he believes they are a main reason for the widespread interest in the work of the church in the community which he noticed during a visit to the United States some years ago.
