EXPORTS TO N.Z.
“Fall May Be At End” (Special Crspdt. NZP.A.) LONDON, Man* 20. “There is good ground tor believing that the fall in our exports to primary producers is coming to an end. Indeed it may already be over,” said the President ot the Board of Trade (Mr Frederick Erroll) in the House of Commons today.
“There are some encouraging signs that the rate of fall in our exports to New Zealand has substantially moderated and there is some reason to believe that it may come to an end. “Our sales to Australia have been rising since the autumn Therefore we may reasonably look forward to an improvement in our exports to primary-producing countries. This is an improvement which should gather speed as the year moves on,” he said. Mr Erroll spoke of what he called “a year of great opportunity” for British exports. He claimed that the Government’s restrictive measures of last July had worked successfully. The wage pause had kept British prices competitive and conditions had been created to favour the expansion of exports.
