SECOND PRIZE
Four Women Share £2OOO Four women shop assistants in Rangiora had difficulty in concentrating on work yesterday morning. They had just learned they were the winners of the £2OOO second prize in the fifteenth Golden Kiwi lottery. First prize of £12,000 went to Wellington. The four women, Miss L. Boden, Mrs H. Carr, Mrs A. Rolleston and Mrs D. Howse, first heard the news after they had got to work. Mrs Carr’s son heard the news over the radio and telephoned his mother. Their nom de plume, “Barronio’s Girls" was quickly linked with Mr B. Barron’s milk bar.
The women bought their first ticket as a syndicate in lottery No. 13, and so have not yet paid the full price of a ticket for their dividend of £5OO each.
Miss Boden said she was go. ing to buy some clothes with her share and use it to attend a hairdressing college. Mrs Carr said she was “very Scottish, and was going to hang on to it.” Mrs How’se immediately earmarked it for improvements to the Howse’s home. As for Mrs Rolleston? . . . “Me, I’m going to spend it,” she said happily.
