POOR DAY’S FISHING
881 b Shark Best Catch (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 21. With only one day of the international big-game fishing contest left, competitors today had their poorest day’s fishing since the event began 10 days ago. The biggest fish landed was an 881 b mako shark caught by C. L Cook off Whangarei. But if it was a poor day for big-game fish, tuna were again caught in abundance. Fishermen at Whangarei, the most successful base today, landed between them 35 tuna. The Australian competitor, R. Dyer, and his wife alone caught 15 totalling 2761 b.
The Whangarei Deep Sea Anglers’ Club team, captained by A. L. Byles, increased its lead in the competition with a catch of a 461 b mako shark and four tuna totalling 721 b. I With a total of 1384 points, j the Whangarei team now holds | a lead of 319 points over its I nearest rivals, the two-man I team captained by N. Scott, of South Africa. The South' Africans today failed to catchi I a single fish.
