“The Press’ Special Service WELLINGTON, March 19.
Bedtime Story, dam of the high class two-year-old Blyton. which impressively won the Nursery Handicap and Wakefield Challenge Stakes at Trentham, will return to her native England. She has been purchased by Mr K Freeman, an English bloodstock agent who has been visiting New Zealand and who will leave tomorrow for Sydney A bay mare by Dante from Seraglio by Turkhan (son of Bahram) from Overture, by Dastur (son of Solario) from Overmantle by Apron, Bedtime Story was bred in England in 1951 by LieutenantColonel Giles Loder and was imported in 1956 by Sir James Fletcher and Mr J. C. Fletcher She was in foal to Tenerani and after her arrival foaled Tenebrae, which has been a winner in Sydney. Her next produce, a colt to Chatsworth II named Morvern. ran third in a two-year-old race in Sydney but after anothei start was destroyed. Donfair (by Fair’s Fair) which won and was six times placed a’ a two-year-old, was her next foal and the fourth is Blyton.
Blyton was most impressive in her two winning runs at Trentham and appears to be one of the best two-year-old fillies for some seasons. She will run in the Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes at Awapun this week and if she carries on through her Easter engagements is certain to finish up near the top of the Free Handicap. Mr Freeman, who has been established in England as a blood-stock agent since he left the Army in 1946, also breeds and races horses himself and his horses have won in England Italy and South Africa. One at the stallions Mt Freeman has exported from England is Coronation Boy, a successful young Nasrullah horse which stands at Mr C. Haig's Balcrest’Stud in South Australia
Bedtime Story will travel to South Australia to be mated with Coronation Boy during the next season and then will continue her journey to England where she will join Mr Freeman’s stud in Norwich.
Bedtime Story was offered at the Alton Lodge dispersal at Trentham in January and was passed in at 2400gns, the reserve being 2500gns. This was before Blyton had begun her winning sequence, which now stands at four.
