The Canterbury 440 yards and 880 yards record-holder, G. F. Hack, will return on Saturday to the Canterbury athletic team after a few months’ absence. He will compete for the province against a New Zealand Combined Services’ team at Rugby Park. Because of an injury. Mr R. Barnes, who has been mainly responsible for establishing the club, has visions of the forming of a Seddon Shield district of surf clubs, incorporating Nelson, Marlborough, Buller, and the West Coast. * * * League Coaches The coaching classes held in Christchurch last year by the national advisory coach to the New Zealand Rugby League Council, Mr C. R. Mountford, are bearing trait Five of the six senior teams this season will be coached by men who qualified for certificates at the end of Mr Mountford’s courses. Hornby. Papenui, Christchurch, and Sydenham will be coached by Messrs E. Butts, H. J Walker, R H Turton, and I Pimley respectively, all of whom gained senior club coaching certificates R Pounsford, who qualified for a junior coaching certificate, will be player-coach of the Linwood team. The Marist club has yet to announce the coach for its senior team.
