Benefits Of Eating Meat

This article was originally offered as information for meat retailers to advise their customers about the advantages of meat. It is reprinted here by courtesy of the “Meat Trade Quarterly Bulletin " The benefits of all meats are especially needed by young people. They need more proteins a lb of body weight than adults.

Digestibility: AU meats are 96 per cent to 98 per cent, digestible. The proteins included are entirely digestible as is about 96 per cent of meat fat

Proteins: Found in all meat proteins are essential to life and are necessary for body building and the repair of body tissues. Without sufficient proteins fatigue develops more quickly; body functions are more susceptible to degeneration; strength and stamina suffer; and the sense of well being is lost

Minerals: These are necessary for good health. Food iron, phosphorus and many trace minerals are included in meat.

Vitamins: Meats provide B Vitamins. These promote vitality, good appetite and aid in protection against certain nervous disorders and others resulting from B Vitamin deficiency.

The B Vitamins include Bl (thiamine). There is more of this vitamin in pork and in the liver, heart and kidney than in beef, lamb and veal, which are, however, sources of

thiamine. Beef has much Vitamin B2 (riboflavin), which helps keep vision clear and promotes smooth skin.

Weight control: The leaner the meat, the more useful it is in reducing weight. Meat takes the place of other, less nutritious foods, supplies energy, and satisfies the hunger that nonmeat reducing diets often leave. Mothers and babies: Expectant mothers require extra proteins and babies and toddlers thrive on meat
