N.Z. Meat For China

Sir.—The suggestion of Mr A. Scott is the first really constructive proposition for solving the problem created by Britain’s joining the E.E.C. The country that successfully taps the Chinese market in meat or wool or butter, or in any other, even industrial, lines will be on a winner, as the demand of 600 million with a rather low standard of living is inexhaustible. But there seems to be little hope that Mr Scott’s realistic suggestion will be heeded, as political reasons and our submissive attitude to the United States will be stronger than common-sense. —Yours, etc.,

O. STRICKER. March 18, 1962.
