Soccer NOMADS WIN INDOOR COMPETITION

With 32 points—nine ahead of the runner-up—Nomads won the indoor football competition which ended with the seventeenth and eighteenth rounds of play at Cowles Stadium last evening. Christchurch City was the runner-up, and points were scored by the other teams as follows:—Technical Old Boys 21, Rangers 21, Neerlandia 20, Western 19, Shamrock 17, High School Old Boys 15, Wigram 7, New Brighton 5.

Shamrock gained two valuable points in the seventeenth round when It comfortably beat a strong Western team. 4-0. Shamrock’s play appeared to be mostly defensive, with the very fast and fit player, J. Price, playing forward, using his speed to the loose ball. Brilliant defensive play i y H. Taylor and P. Flynn kept the Western attackers at bay, and Price displayed his pace and skill In scoring five goals. Western played cleverly at times, but at others appeared lethargic. W. Rodgers and K. Olley were the most Impressive of a disappointing Western team.

A much improved New Brighton team showed Neerlandla that the game would not be one-sided, by scoring two good goals in the early stages. Neeriandia soon Improved, but found great difficulty in piercing the defence. In the last 70 seconds Neerlandla scored two goals to equalise. Rangers, though not outstanding, beat an unreliable Wigram team. 3-1. Nomads were deservedly beaten. 5-2, by High School Old Boys. Nomads, however, fielded a young and mainly inexperienced team, which did well to hold a full-strength High School Old Boys team to a margin of only three goals. New Brighton again showed its improved form when it beat Western 3-2. The game was fast, and one of the best of the evening. J. Relllck was brilliant in scoring seven goals for Shamrock. which beat Technical Old Boys, 9-4. Technical again failed to play to its best form. Christchurch City also had a convincing win. beating a determined High School Old Boys team. 9-1. No one player was outstanding for City. every player scoring at least one goal. Results were.—
