European Visit To Collect Folk Songs (London Correspondent of “The Press”] LONDON, March 12. A young Auckland ballad singer and composer who has made several recordings, Miss Willow Macky, returned to London recently after two months in France and Spain studying and selecting folk songs. Miss Macky will continue her study of folk songs and guitar technique in England until October, when she plans to return to Auckland. She will bring with her some of the French and Spanish folk songs Miss Macky, who has also been adding to her repertoire some American songs, said she had been greatly aided in her search for suitable Spanish material by Professor Thomas Fletcher, an English poet and lecturer in Salamanca. Professor Fletcher is well known for his translations from the Swedish of folk songs sung by the American balladeer. William Clauson “My visit to Europe enabled me to ge. the atmosphere, the essential flavour, and the language of these two countries.” Miss Macky said.
